remember the moment when I decided to stop appearing on Channel 4 News. It was in June, a few days after a hideous attack on two gay women. Channel 4 had sent out a press release in which the women appeared to blame Boris Johnson for the crime, saying that he was “not fit to lead the United Kingdom”.

When the footage emerged, it was immediately clear that the journalist seemed to be coaxing the interviewees, both of whom were from overseas and unfamiliar with UK politics. The question was prefaced with an assertion that Boris had made some “pretty homophobic comments in the past”.
